3RD ANNUAL SENIOR FEST AND INFORMATION SHARING CONFERENCE SCHEDULED FOR AUG. 22
TOMS RIVER - A half-day conference sponsored by Ocean County and local agencies will provide senior citizens the
opportunity to obtain and share the most current information on scams and frauds that are specifically targeting older
adults.
The Third Annual Senior Fest and Information Sharing Conference is scheduled to run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.,
Wednesday, Aug. 22 at the Poland Springs Arena at the Ritacco Center, Old Freehold Road, here.
"The Ocean County Board of Chosen Freeholders is pleased to join with the Ocean County Prosecutor and other agencies in
sponsoring this event," said Freeholder Director John P. Kelly, who serves as Director of Law and Public Safety.
"Information is a powerful tool and our seniors need to be provided with the best information possible so they can make
well-informed decisions."
Ocean County Prosecutor Marlene Lynch Ford added the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office is pleased to be a sponsor,
once again, of the annual Senior Fest.
"While the purpose of the program is to provide information on a number of interesting topics for active adults, we also
hope the public takes note of the information our office provides with regard to financial and physical exploitation of
vulnerable adults, identity theft, senior scam prevention and other law enforcement issues of interest to our older
population," she said. "Prevention and common sense will make sure most seniors will never need the services of the Ocean
County Prosecutor's Office."
The conference, which is also sponsored by Wachovia Bank and the Toms River Township Police Department, will include
professional presentations on the most current topics that directly effect Ocean County's older adult population.
Representatives from the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, Wachovia Bank, New Jersey State Police, New Jersey Office of
the Attorney General, IRS and Alzheimer's Respite Care will provide brief but concise presentations at this information
sharing conference - all targeted to keeping seniors safe and secure in our techno-savvy age.
Also, throughout the day and provided free of charge will be a host of medical screenings including blood pressure,
cholesterol, sugar and osteoporosis. The Ocean County Sheriff's Department will be providing seniors with photo
identification cards. Wachovia Bank will be raffling off paper shredders to support the prevention of identity theft and
a vast amount of participants will also be providing "give-a-ways" and handouts.
There will be over 50 agencies represented at the conference from county, municipal, state and federal levels including
law enforcement, banks, senior service providers and health care professionals, all coming together to provide not only
valuable information but to show their support and commitment to the senior citizens of Ocean County.
"Ocean County has the largest senior population in the state," said Freeholder Joseph H. Vicari, who serves as Chairman of
Senior Services. "This conference provides them with important information and also introduces them to important programs
and services specifically for them."
Admission to the conference is free and a light continental breakfast will be served.
